Since December of 2010, when I took office, more than $114 million in state and county funding has been budgeted for school improvements that affect students from the Fifth District.
That amount includes more than $18 million to renovate Dumbarton Middle School; $15 million to build the addition at Stoneleigh Elementary School; and $14 million for the expansion at Hampton Elementary School. But it also includes funding to air condition and repair the roof at Seven Oaks Elementary School; improve the roofs at Chapel Hill and Cromwell Valley Elementary Schools; and make repairs to Pine Grove Elementary School and the White Oak School in Loch Raven.
I am proud of the bipartisan support we received for these projects. It took leadership from both county and state officials. I am also proud that so much funding was secured for school improvements in such a fiscally challenging time, and without a tax increase at the county level. I will continue to work hard to build better schools across the Fifth District.
