Over the past week, we have celebrated two ribbon-cutting events that mark revitalization in different parts of the Fifth District.

Last week, I attended the ribbon-cutting for the new Weis Markets at Fullerton Plaza.  The new supermarket is beautiful.  It provides another shopping option for families in the area, and adds 140 jobs to northeastern Baltimore County.

Our office has been in touch with Kimco Realty, which owns Fullerton Plaza, for about two years.  As a longtime resident of this area, I frequented this shopping center as a child, and I know it really needed a facelift.  Weis Markets not only fills the vacant K-Mart space, but it anchors a shopping center that is greatly improved along the Belair Road corridor.

Today, along the Joppa Road corridor, another new business opened:  the Wawa gasoline station and convenience store near Loch Raven Village.  This is the first element of the Loch Ravens Common mixed-use development.  Our office worked with the developer and the community on this project, which I hope will continue the momentum for revitalization along the entire corridor.
