The Campaign for Liberty is a far-right organization based in Maryland in Cecil County. Unlike other political entities, the Campaign for Liberty does not report from whom it takes donations. That’s right–the Campaign for Liberty is funded through what many analysts call “dark money.”

Many of those people who “like” the Campaign for Liberty on Facebook are politically conservative, and inclined to support Republicans. Unfortunately, for much of the past seven years, this group’s leaders have focused on smearing Republican elected officials with whom they disagree. They target Republicans far more than Democrats or liberals, ignoring Ronald Reagan’s famous quote: “The person who agrees with you 80 percent of the time is a friend and ally, not a 20 percent traitor.”

Recently, this group littered Perry Hall with flyers attacking my record. I want to set the record straight.

I have never voted to raise the property or income tax rates.

I authored legislation expanding property tax credits in Baltimore County.

I voted against the “rain tax” in 2013, voted to reduce it in 2015, and voted to eliminate it in 2016.

I voted to cut millions of dollars from the county budget, but still fund priority services for our district: three new schools, eight new parks, and additional police officers and firefighters. Baltimore County retains one of the highest bond ratings in the United States, which allows the county to borrow at a lower rate than many other jurisdictions.

The Campaign for Liberty supports defunding these programs. I’m sorry, but I will not stop construction of new schools when we have overcrowded classrooms, and I will always support more police officers in our neighborhoods.

In the primary election, Republican voters have a choice. They can vote for a Roy Moore-style Republican backed by the Campaign for Liberty who is unelectable in November, or they can support my vision for the Fifth District, where we make prudent spending decisions that address the needs of Towson, Carney, Perry Hall, and Kingsville.
