In 2012, the Baltimore County Council passed legislation that created the Perry Hall commercial revitalization district, an area centered at Belair, Ebenezer, and Joppa Roads. Businesses in this area can qualify for incentives from Baltimore County, and organizations can receive grants for beautification and marketing.
My goal in sponsoring this legislation was to give businesses assistance in an area that we like to call “Downtown Perry Hall.” The legislation is working.
Since 2010, the occupancy rate has increased from 60 to 90 percent at the Perry Hall Square Shopping Center. The shopping center markets the value of the revitalization program in its marketing program.
Thanks to the revitalization district, we have been able to plant new landscaping and erect street banners along Perry Hall Elementary School.
Now, with assistance from the Architect On-Call program, the Perry Hall Animal Hospital has made significant improvements to its grounds. This longtime Perry Hall business recently won an award from Baltimore County for its renovation. I am very proud of their work and presented them with a County Council resolution.
Redevelopment and improvement of Downtown Perry Hall is one of my top priorities for the next four years. I look forward to the upcoming construction at 8833 Belair Road and new businesses opening at Perry Hall Square Shopping Center over the next few months.
