I would like to publicly thank County Executive Kevin Kamenetz for committing to full funding for the Perry Paw Dog Park project. Thanks to his support, this project will get finished and be another asset in Perry Hall’s excellent park and recreation system.
I also wanted to take this opportunity to thank all those who have supported and raised money for the Perry Hall Dog Park Committee over the past two years. An amazing amount of work has been done in two short years.
In August 2011, I endorsed the concept of a Perry Hall Dog Park and created a task force to evaluate possible locations. Over the next seven months, the committee completed site visits and obtained support from the Perry Hall and White Marsh Recreation Councils.
In March 2012, our office secured approval from the Baltimore County Department of Recreation and Parks for the dog park to be located at Honeygo Run Regional Park.
In May 2012, management of The Avenue at White Marsh donated $3,000 toward the project. In November 2012, our office arranged for the developer of the Brightview Perry Hall project to donate $5,000 toward the project. This spring, Red Brick Station held the second of two fundraisers for the dog park. The dog park committee raised money through hot dog sales at Honeygo Park and other smaller events as well. All told, the committee secured more than $20,000 in private sector donations.
Last May, the Baltimore County Council’s budget message requested that the County Executive look for ways finish the project.
In a tough economy, private sector donations are critical as we try to finish community projects. The Dog Park Committee worked hard, raised money, and convinced the County Executive that this was a worthwhile effort.
Again, my personal thanks to the County Executive and his staff for their support.
