I am pleased to announce that the County Council will vote on Monday, March 15th to purchase 22 acres of land for a new park in Perry Hall.
The property is located east of Gerst Road in Perry Hall’s Honeygo area, between New Gerst Lane and Glenfield Road. It borders the Glenside Farms neighborhood to the west, and was formerly the site of the Perry Hall Community Hall, owned by the Bierman family.
I would like to thank County Executive Olszewski and his administration for their strong support. The County Executive was critically involved and I profoundly appreciate his leadership. I also thank Councilwoman Bevins.
At the state level, Senator Jennings and Delegates Arikan and Szeliga left their support, and I thank them as well. Greg Heitner, chairman of the Recreation and Parks Board, provided constant input, along with community leaders Ed Beranek and Pat Keller.
The county will be using $3.07 million in Program Open Space funding to acquire the site. The White Marsh Recreation Council will assist in acquiring the property and preparing the property. The sale is contingent on a final environmental study.
The land does not include the Gerst Farm to the west, where discussions continue with the developer.
This acquisition will remove a land area from future development and provide recreational space in a growing community. It is a great legacy for the Bierman family, which has owned the land for many years.
No specific uses have been determined for the site. The public will be involved once the land is acquired.
