Baltimore County citizens expect their elected officials to be visible—especially their County Councilmembers.

More than many other public offices, this is a job that requires hands-on leadership. Water lines break on the weekends, not just from Monday to Friday. There are constant issues that demand the police, or potholes to be fixed, or problems to be solved.

In all my time as a County Councilman, I have rarely skipped a community forum. As a candidate in three elections, I have accepted every invitation to engage the voters.

This spring, there were five community forums: in Idlewylde, Parkville, Ridgeleigh, Oak Crest Village, and Glen Arm. My general election opponent skipped every single forum, including the one sponsored by his home community association.

This fall, he refused to commit to a sixth forum sponsored by the League of Women Voters.

Mr. Foley can’t point to a single significant accomplishment in the community, and now he hides from the voters. It’s no wonder that close to half the Democratic voters left their ballots blank in the primary election.

I will continue to an engaged problem-solver—and always meet with and listen to the voters of the Fifth District.
