Today, I received word that the Maryland Department of Transportation will award funding to Towson University to design a 1.8 mile neighborhood bikeway loop surrounding the campus. The loop will consist of shared use paths, bicycle lanes, signage, and intersection improvements.

The network will connect with the bike lanes already developed in Downtown Towson, and I believe will improve mobility in one of Baltimore County’s most densely-populated regions. As I have said many times since my election, there are few ways to improve highway capacity in Towson; we need more walking, biking, and a Towson Circulator that improves access throughout the area. I have sponsored legislation that required bike parking in new construction and created the Baltimore County Pedestrian and Bicycle Advisory Committee.

The design money begins a planning process that will engage neighborhoods and other stakeholders.

It was a pleasure to advocate for this funding on behalf of Towson University, which has worked hard to advance transportation improvements in and around the campus. I would like to thank the Hogan administration for its support.
