On February 2nd, I will introduce legislation that requires new residential development in Downtown Towson to be considered by the Baltimore County Design Review Panel. Currently, only commercial projects are reviewed by this board, which includes professional engineers and architects.
I believe this will not only improve the look of new apartments, condominiums, and other homes in Downtown Towson, but also give citizens greater input. Right now, residents have considerable input if a Planned Unit Development is proposed, but they don’t have much say if a project proceeds based on conventional zoning.
If we are going to build apartments or condominiums that last 50 or 60 years in Downtown Towson, shouldn’t we require an additional step in the review process to make sure they look attractive?
