Over the past 20 years, I have worked very hard to expand and improve the open space in our communities. As President of the Perry Hall Improvement Association, I worked with other leaders to protect the land that subsequently became Indian Rock Park and Gough and Soukup Parks.
As County Councilman, I have supported funding to develop these parks, as well as strengthen the role of NeighborSpace of Baltimore County, a nonprofit land conservation entity. Last summer, we collaborated with NeighborSpace to open Ridgely Manor Park, the first new park in the Loch Raven area in a half-century.
Public space is essential in our communities, including denser areas. Everyone wants a place where they can reflect on a beautiful spring afternoon. Children need playgrounds where they can enjoy the outdoors, or fields where they can play games.
Over the past few months, I have had numerous conversations with community leaders about Baltimore County’s public places and green areas. The County Council will soon receive a report from the Planning Board on open space fees. I look forward to receiving this report and engaging stakeholders so we can upgrade and expand parks, playgrounds, and other facilities in Baltimore County.
