White Marsh Mall on its opening day – August 12, 1981. I was seven years old. It’s where I saw Santa Claus, rented a tuxedo for the prom, bought toys at KB, and spent hours pouring through Waldenbooks and B. Dalton.

Everyone who works here – no matter their background – deserves a safe environment. Every patron should feel safe.

In the aftermath of last Saturday’s incident, Councilwoman Bevins and I have proposed reasonable steps: increase bus service right after the mall closes, end bus service around 11 p.m., beef up security, and encourage the mall to implement a youth escort policy.

Our critics should stop the rhetoric and propose what measures they would take – actual concrete steps that can be implemented immediately.
