In 2019, I established a task force to recommend strategies for revitalizing the intersection centered at Loch Raven Boulevard and Joppa Road. This is an aging area dominated by hotels and housing constructed more than a half-century ago.

Since that time, several properties have been proposed for redevelopment, including the former Hooters restaurant site, which will become a car wash that utilizes environmentally-friendly techniques.  Last year, I downzoned the former First Mariner bank site, which was proposed for an oil service center.  Instead, the bank will be renovated into a pediatric child care center.  Additional changes in this area should be announced soon.

I am bullish on the future of this intersection.  Around the Fifth District, we have seen commercial revitalization in places like Downtown Towson, Perry Hall, and Carney.  Now is the time for Loch Raven to share in this redevelopment.
