In 2013, I helped secure funding for air conditioning and interior modifications at Dumbarton Middle School, which serves students from central and southern Towson. The school system began developing plans, with design and contract bidding to be done in in August 2014 and construction scheduled to finish in August 2016.
Unfortunately, as plans became public, it was apparent that the school system had not taken into consideration Dumbarton Middle School’s unique location. To accommodate a new traffic loop and additional parking, plans called for the destruction of some of the beautiful, mature trees that ring the campus.
Over several months, I have been working with our state legislators and the Rodgers Forge Community Association to modify the proposal. I look forward to supporting a plan that accommodates the school’s needs, but preserves the stately trees that distinguish this community.
