Since my election to the Baltimore County Council, I have focused on revitalizing and improving our older commercial areas.

The change that has occurred in Downtown Towson is breathtaking.  Cranes dot the skyline.  Businesses are reopening along York Road, and projects like 101 York, Towson Row, and Circle East promise to add new residents and commercial activity to what was once an emptying area.

Along the Belair Road corridor, the decaying Fullerton Plaza has been redeveloped, anchored by a new Weis Market and LA Fitness. Lidl is renovating the empty Mars supermarket space at Silver Spring Road, and Perry Hall Square is marking the completion of a renovation at one of our oldest shopping centers.   I am confident that the new El Salto restaurant will being additional activity here when it opens on October 21st.

Now, I want to being the same sense of revitalization to the area centered at Joppa Road and Loch Raven Boulevard.   That’s why I have created a task force of community and business leaders to craft strategies for improving this older intersection, which was largely built in the 1950s and 1960s.

Town centers are critical.  They help define our communities, and they serve as hubs of activity.   I will continue to push for strong commercial districts from Towson to Perry Hall.
