On April 29, I attended the groundbreaking for the Towson Mews project. The townhome community will be constructed at the former site of the Daft McCune Walker building near Pennsylvania and Virginia Avenues.
An earlier plan by another developer involved student housing at the site. When the current developer suggested townhouses, we supported that option because it better fit the character of the community.
Our office then worked through some local concerns, including the density of the townhomes. The County Council passed a resolution on March 16, 2015 that set aside more open space in the development, and required street trees to be planted throughout Historic East Towson.
This development will help buffer Historic East Towson from Downtown Towson. It will bring new residents to this area, helping our restaurants and businesses, and the improved design and green space should enhance the overall Towson community.
