Over the next two years, developers will complete projects that will add more than 1,000 units to Downtown Towson. Circle East, 101 York, and Towson Run will fundamentally change the complexion of Downtown Towson, bringing new residents to support our businesses.
Revitalization is good. We have come very far since 2010, but we have much work to do over the next two years to plan for growth.
To that end, I will be working to relaunch planning for the Towson Circulator. The Hogan administration supported the Circulator through planning money, but the previous County Executive opposed any further efforts. I support a pilot program in 2020 and 2021 to determine the long-term effectiveness of this initiative.
Second, we need to explore options to increase revenue for basic upkeep in Downtown Towson. Corridors like York Road need power washing, and we need more security in Downtown Towson as the population grows. Over the years, I have mentioned the possibility of a business improvement district to pay for these services, but there are other options as well.
I look forward to engaging our stakeholders on these important needs.
